- Recipient of the 1992 Young Composer's Prize
- Finalist in "Sing, Florida!" contest for a new official state song of Florida
- Named the official composer for the Florida Vocal Association for annual sight-reading materials booklet
Dr. Ashley studied composition with Russell Robinson, Stefan Young, Robert Gower, and Laurie Altman. He is currently working on commissions for the Association for Music in International Schools (an SSAA piece with orchestra), the Florida Vocal Association (sight-reading materials), and the choral program of an arts magnet school (a TTBB work with piano accompaniment).
As you will see below, Carl Ashley has composed a small handful of secular works; however, he is a committed evangelical Christian in the Presbyterian Church in America and prefers to use his musical gifts to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
